![]() Anticlimax: Echo (AC:E) is a webcomic about a guy, a girl, and a snowman, named Beowulf. Beowulf was actually the first character and really the start of the comic. A little over a year before the comic premiered, a friend of mine insisted I watch a movie called “Cannibal the Musical” (a very stupid, but oddly amusing, musical comedy inspired by a true story). She only made me watch parts of it (and listen to the soundtrack), but one of the songs in the movie was about building a snowman. And, in that song, one of the lines was “We can name him Bob, or we can name him Beowulf!” Well, being the odd person that I am, and because we had been reading Beowulf in school around that time, I found the idea of a snowman named Beowulf to be incredibly amusing. So, the idea stuck in my head, and eventually I decided I would have to make a comic about this snowman. Somehow I added the other characters in – I’m not sure which came first, probably Keith – and decided they should have powers, and like anime. The idea grew upon itself from there. I even wrote a story using the characters, when we had to write a satire in my English class. I changed the storyline of the comic a bit, and wrote a story that was a parody of a magical girl anime (I’ll post that story eventually; right now it would give away some plot elements). And so, over the next year, I figured out character designs and personalities, decided on an actual plot, and eventually got around to drawing the comic. I hope you all like it as much as I do! : ) Lina Catlett
Birthday: June 21
No, Lina isn’t her real name. Since she first saw Slayers, she became a bit (okay, more than a bit) obsessed with the show and its main character, and eventually insisted upon being called Lina. Seeing as few people try to argue with her, that’s what she goes by. In fact, her actual name has been pretty much forgotten. Other than hair color, Lina shares very little in common with Miss Inverse, appearance-wise – but she lives up to her namesake in personality. Lina is bossy, stubborn, mean, easily angered, overreactive, self-centered, and has a tendency to set things on fire. However, she is a true fangirl, and has a severe weakness for bishounen (her favorite being Gourry, of course). At the same time, though, she despises most real guys. There are some other key differences between her hero and herself, but you’ll have to find those out in the comic. : ) Oh, and I guess I should note that she lives with Keith.
Birthday: December 22
Keith is a nice guy. He would have to be, to put up with Lina. He’s kind, forgiving, understanding, compassionate...Lina’s complete opposite. (Hey, they’re as different as...fire and ice! *giggle*) They share a love of anime, though, and isn’t that all that matters? (Don’t look at me like that.) Darn it, I can’t think of much to say about Keith, without giving away plot (and there will be a plot, trust me!). I can tell you this, though: he lives with his delinquent aunt. His parents died when he was very young; he can’t even really remember them. Despite that, he’s maintained a very upbeat personality and outlook on life. And we all just love him for that, don’t we? :) Um....I guess that’s about it. He’s a bit of an odd one, too; he has an overactive imagination, and tends to daydream often, which gets him in trouble at school.
Birthday: December 22 (if you could consider it a “birth”day)
Beowulf is Keith’s “pet” snowman. He is basically a reflection on Keith’s personality; they seem to be connected, and it’s almost like they share one mind at times. However, they disagree on one very important issue: Beowulf does not like Lina. Too bad he has to live with her, huh? |
